چکیده

Rainfall forecasting and its spatio-temporal variability is important for many hydrological applications. It critical to understand the uncertainty verify quality of rainfall forecasts provided by Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models. In present study, National Center Environmental (NCEP) Global Forecast System (GFS) model performance evaluated day-1 day-5 forecast with a threshold 1 mm/day in Nagavali Vamsadhara river basins, India. From results, predicted correlation coefficient >0.3 probability detection >0.6 day-3 forecasts. The bias prediction shifted from overestimation underestimation 30% as lead time increased. total mean error decomposed into hit, false, missed bias. main sources are hit false However, influenced Bias correction applied events intensity >12 mm/day. RMSE improved >18% both improvement ranged between 3% 9% other days. basin, BIAS ME 44% 65% forecast, whereas it 93%. Our findings useful early warning dissemination during flood events, resource mobilization protect communities, sustainable water resources planning management.

Forecast skill of the tropical intraseasonal oscillation in the NCEP GFS dynamical extended range forecasts

This study examines the forecast performance of tropical intraseasonal oscillation (ISO) in recent dynamical extended range forecast (DERF) experiments conducted with the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecasting System (GFS) model. The present study extends earlier work by comparing prediction skill of the northern winter ISO (Madden-Julian Oscillation) between th...

Ensemble-based observation impact estimates using the NCEP GFS

The impacts of the assimilated observations on the 24 hour forecasts are estimated with the ensemble-based method proposed by Kalnay et al. using the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF). This method estimates the relative impact of observations in data assimilation similarly to the adjoint-based method proposed by Langland and Baker but without using the adjoint model. It is implemented with the Nati...

A Local Ensemble Kalman Filter for the Ncep Gfs Model

This paper outlines the basic concept and mathematical formulation of the Local Ensemble Kalman Filter (LEKF, Ott et al. 2002 and 2003) data assimilation scheme. Some important properties of the scheme are illustrated by numerical experiments with the Lorenz-96 model. Initial implementations of the LEKF on the National Centers for Environmental Prediction Global Forecast System (NCEP GFS) are d...
